People have asked about my painting.  I painted it in 1964 in reaction to modern art not meaning anything.

In one’s existence beyond oneself there is one’s own experiences, all the trivialities of life in it’s complex form.  Usually, we never get further than our own small world, believing that all beyond is either inferior or beyond our reach.  The occasional fleeting desire is fast submerged by the rut of everyday life.  But life’s blood flows into the unknown, but even this fact is overshadowed by the belief, “Work for today and tomorrow will look after itself” and a fear that a change may be a change for the worse.

The advancement of the world does not lie in the hands of people with these attitudes, but in the hands of those people who plan to make dreams realities.  However, a new problem faces one’s progressive mind, the decision of direction, for one must turn outward from oneself and get beyond one’s own narrow experiences.  If one goes up, it is impossible to go down at the same time.  It is up to the individual to set his or her compass in the direction of his or her choice, but it is better never to have started than to change direction in mid-stream.  We must not fall by the wayside and settle for the second best of our dream; we must not give up swimming against the tide.

The exploration of the unknown is near at hand, and we only are left.  We have gained the experience of weathering the storm of life’s adventure, we are now fit to make our own individual breakthrough and then life’s stragglers will one day be able to reap the benefits.
